Silica Removal from Waste Water

Sorbster® Si-1 alumina-based media removes soluble or reactive silica from industrial water. It is manufactured to specific physical characteristics to enhance silica removal. Reactive silica bonds rapidly throughout the high media macro-porosity and surface area for removal rates up to 99%. Sorbster® Si-1 has a 20-30 weight % capacity for silica adsorption. Reduction of other anions in water may also be achieved by Sorbster® Si-1.

Silica is a problem for high-pressure boilers and cooling tower operation, limiting cycles of concentration. Silica will precipitate as a glassy deposit which reduces efficiency.

Two types of silica, colloidal and reactive, can cause this problem as colloidal silica will break down and volatilize under high temperature and pressure.

Sorbster® Si is specifically designed to remove reactive silica from makeup water to prevent potential deposition, improve the efficiency of cooling operations, and enhance chemical program efficiencies.
